İSTANBUL(3)-ANKARA(1)-KAPADOKYA(1)-KONYA(1)- ANTALYA(2) Antalya (in Greek: Attaleia) Founded in 150 BC by Attalos II, king of Pergamon, under the name “Attaleia", this city is situated on the Gulf of Antalya, in the Mediterranean coast of Southwestern Turkey, within the region called “Turkish Riviera” or “Turquoise Coast”. It is one of the most important touristic centers of Turkey, and one of the most visited places in the world: about 10 million of visitors in 2010. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, Antalya is preferred by many tourists from all over the world. The city was inhabited respectively by the Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans. In 1391, the Ottoman Empire took the city, and gave it the name of Adalya, which became later Antalya. Antalya is known also for its fruits and vegetables cultivated in greenhouses. |
